Plans have been put forward to hold an open week at the Forth Road Bridge during the week beginning October 26.
A new report to the Forth Estuary Transport Authority recommends holding a week-long public exhibition combined with school and community visits.
On Saturday 31 October, it is proposed to offer guided tours of the bridge by minibus, including visits to the cable anchorages.
FETA Convener Phil Wheeler said: "The ForthRoadBridge is an iconic structure that everyone in Scotland can be proud of. There's a wonderful story to tell and we now want to open our doors to the local community and anyone else who uses the bridge.
"This would be a rare opportunity for members of the public to get a close-up look at the excellent work carried out by the men and women who look after the bridge, in all weathers, at all times of day and night, and usually at great height or in confined spaces."
The FETA board will consider the proposal at their next meeting on 28 August.
