Plans to create, reconstruct and expand Aberdeen harbour quays were approved by the city council's planning committee on Thursday July 23.
Aberdeen Harbour Board said that the work, which is to include dredging the river bed, is required to create a harbour area suitable for modern shipping needs where harbour users can work efficiently.
The River Dee dock would be infilled and new quays and yard space created.
The area of the harbour covered by the planning application is an operational area, on the south side of the River Dee estuary, used particularly by the oil industry.
No change to the overall use of the harbour, or variation of activities carried out there, was proposed.
An environmental statement submitted to the council on the Harbour Board's behalf stated that the development would not result in any insurmountable environmental impacts.
Planning convener Councillor Scott Cassie said: "Aberdeen Harbour makes an important economic contribution to the city and its redevelopment will help to improve business at the harbour and make an even greater contribution to Aberdeen's economy, without damaging the area's marine life.
"This development is also aesthetically important as it will improve the appearance of the area, and provide a more attractive gateway to Torry, which is one of the city's regeneration areas."
