The second of two new Scottish hospitals set to revolutionise patient care has opened its doors.
The opening of the £100m New Victoria follows that of the New Stobhill Hospital last month and together they stand to transform the balance of acute hospital care away from inpatient overnight procedures to same day treatment.
Alex McIntyre, Programme Director, explained that the aim was to design and build a new hospital that not only looked beautiful but also delivered better models of care and greater efficiencies.
Mr McIntyre said: "This was a unique opportunity to create an environment which focuses not only on technological advances in equipment, but also on the entire patient journey.
"To do this, we consulted with clinical staff from an early stage on how services might be redesigned around the needs of patients and then set about creating a hospital that would achieve this.
"Design was also critical to us. We wanted to create an iconic building that both the staff and the general public could take pride in. I am very proud of what we have achieved."
Welcoming the New Victoria Hospital, Nicola Sturgeon, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, said: "The £100m New Victoria is a fine example of the very latest technology bringing care as close to people's homes as possible."
