The power of networking and professional development is more important now than ever, according to the Association of Women in Property.
With many businesses in the property and construction sectors suffering cutbacks as a result of the economic climate, the support offered by Women in Property provides reassurance, builds skills and, critically, contacts.
Lesley Woolfries, Chairman of Central Scotland branch of Women in Property and Associate Director of Holmes Partnership said: "When times are tough, the tendency can be to retreat which just makes matters worse.
"Our members enthusiastically support each other, whether this is through passing on new business opportunities, tips for career development or ongoing mentoring."
Property and construction has historically suffered skills shortages, which has been an issue in delivering developments.
However, with a squeeze on jobs, the combination of skills shortages and fewer people in work could build up problems for the future, when the market returns to normality. Lesley continues: "We hope to maintain confidence among our members and ensure the skills situation is not exacerbated in the coming years.
"As an organisation we run CPD events, including site visits, talks from professional groups and seminars on new legal and planning legislation. Now is the time to make sure you’re up to speed with the market, to help gain professional know-how and business contacts. Maximising every opportunity is critical and it makes good business sense, in readiness for the upturn even if that may be some time coming."
Forthcoming Women in Property Central Scotland branch events for 2009 include the Annual Dinner in support of Breast Cancer 2000 and our AGM and site visit to the new Microsoft office in Waverleygate, Edinburgh on 4 March.
