A junction in the Borders near Peebles is to be upgraded after a pensioner was killed in a road traffic accident last year.
After disembarking a bus on the A703 Mailingsland junction in November, 73-year-old, Jessie Knox, died when she was struck by a van.
A number of primary measures will be introduced this week to upgrade the safety of the road.
Improvements include the reinstatement of cats-eyes, red textureflex surfacing, double white lines and new signage.
Tuck-in arrows will be placed on bends leading to the Mailingsland junction.
Councillor Catriona Bhatia, who campaigned for the upgrade, welcomed the announcement.
Speaking to the Peeblesshire News she said: "I am pleased with the response from the council who have acted swiftly to the concerns raised.
"I attempted to have a 40-miles-per-hour limit set on part of the same road but my motion didn't win enough support.
"The A703 along past Mailingsland and Cringletie does require more substantial safety work, but it will have to compete for funding along with many other road projects."
Roads boss Russell Cramb will design improvements over the coming weeks and work is expected to begin by the end of the month.
