After collapsing during a severe storm in August this year, work to re-build Dunglass Bridge in Southend is progressing well.
Over the last few months, Argyll and Bute Council has considered various options for replacement of the bridge, with a single span bridge coming out on top as the best solution.
Councillor John Semple said: "Dunglass Bridge is situated on the U13 Macharioch Road and is extremely important to the many people who live in that area.
"Because of this, the Council made it a priority to get the bridge rebuilt as quickly as possible and workers have been on site carrying out remedial works since the beginning of November.
"After diverting the water mains and telephone cable, a temporary crane platform was constructed to allow the deck to be lifted into place and construction of the abutments. Once the deck is in place, approach walls will be constructed and the services reinstated in the bridge.
"On completion of works, The Council's Operational Services team will also carry out remedial work on adjacent sections of road which were damaged during the storm. During this time the road will be open for normal vehicular access and opening/closing times will be publicised in advance. Works are expected to be completed early in the New Year."
The Council has expressed its gratitude for the co-operation of the landowners, Margo Turner and David Barbour, and to SEPA, Scottish Water and BT for their prompt actions which enabled the construction to commence at short notice.
