Motherwell residents have had their first look at the proposals for a £2m streetscape improvements scheme being delivered by North Lanarkshire Council.
Detailed designs for the first phase of the proposed scheme, which covers Merry Street from its junction with Muir Street up to Menteith Road, have been developed and put on display in Motherwell Library.
They show the pavements and pedestrian area repaved in natural stone, with new trees replacing the existing brick planters. They also feature a raised lawn area, public artworks and a new location for the Motherwell Tree.
Pavements on the south side of Merry Street will be widened, and new street lighting will be introduced throughout phase one.
"These works will significantly upgrade the quality of the Motherwell streetscape," said Councillor Stephen Grant, Vice-convener of the council's Environmental Services Committee.
"It's part of the council's action plan for the town centre, and will help to secure a positive, sustainable future and provide a focal point for economic, recreational and cultural activity across Motherwell."
