Fintry residents had two reasons to be cheerful at the weekend, when they celebrated the 100th anniversary of the villages Menzies Hall and the official opening of the refurbished hall.
Provost Fergus Wood officially opened the hall on Saturday 4 October in Fintry, said: "This is an important day for Fintry and its rural community, which will hopefully see them enjoy Menzies Hall for another 100 years."
Menzies Hall was built in 1908 at a cost of £850 and gifted to the community by Mr Walter Menzies of Culreuch Castle. Over the last 4 years, refurbishment work costing £200,000 has been funded by the fund raising efforts of the people of Fintry and its organisations, Scottish Executive and Stirling Council.
John Ducworth, Chair of Menzies Hall Management Committee said: "All of this has been made possible by unstinting support and fund raising from the people of Fintry and its organisations, national and local government bodies, other funding bodies and individuals.
"The management committee would like say a big thank you to everybody who has helped us. We would also like thank Provost Wood for helping make the day a terrific success, and to Stirling Council for providing funding and Village Hall Officer, Ian McCourt, who stuck with us through thick and thin, frequently transforming the seemingly impossible into the possible."
The hall has been extended to provide a new entrance, foyer, sound and lighting gallery, access and toilets for the disabled and storage space. There has been a new floor installed and a new kitchen built. The whole building has been rewired with new heating, lighting and safety systems.
