Global engineering, consulting and construction company Black & Veacth has been named as the preferred bidder for a multi-million pound contract to build a new water treatment works for Scottish Water.
The contract, worth £100 million, will see the construction of the new water treatment plant at Glencorse, near Edinburgh.
The Greenfield site has received advanced approval, and Black & Veacth are about 30% of the way through the design process, according to B&V's Europe water division Managing Director, Tony Collins.
He also revealed the plant will provide water for 500,000 people, and is part of Scottish Waters investment strategy to meet European guidelines on drinking water quality. Eight kilometres of twin pipes are also going to be constructed, in order to move water from the new works to the existing distribution network in Edinburgh.
