West Dunbartonshire is set to benefit from a Local Energy Saving Scheme that the council promises will make every single home in the whole of the area more energy efficient and will dramatically cut household fuel bills.
A unique local partnership between the Council, Scottish Hydro Electric, SOLAS Insulation, The Pension Service and the Energy Saving Scotland Advice Service have worked together to make this massive task deliverable over the next three - four years.
Council leader, Iain Robertson said: "All households, whether owner occupiers, private tenants and council tenants all stand to benefit from the scheme. I am delighted that this has all come together with the input from all the partners.
"The council is committed to tackling fuel poverty, soaring energy costs and reducing emissions and following all guidelines within Scotland's Climate Change Declaration.
"We are proud that West Dunbartonshire is leading the way in becoming Scotland's most energy efficient local authority and of course the implementation for this initiative will also create jobs for Dumbarton based, company SOLAS Installation and will boost our local economy as well as saving householders in fuel bills.
"The council is paying for our entire housing stock of 11,200 homes to have this done. It's a win-win situation for everyone involved and of course this Community based model and Private and Public Sector Partnership would work in other local authority areas throughout Scotland."
