Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) has helped re-launch a community facility following the demolition of its previous premises.
Two double multi-storey blocks, 40/80 and 45/85 Stirlingfauld Place, were quickly reduced to rubble. The blocks had contained 552 properties, including a community facility used by a local registered charity called Stirlingfauld Rooms, which is managed by a committee made up of four local residents.
New Gorbals Local Housing Organisation (LHO), who manages the properties in the area on behalf of GHA, recognised the importance of this facility and successfully negotiated a suitable alternative property at the old Local Repair Team Office at 99 - 111 Eglington Street. The Local Repair team cleared, cleaned, painted and decorated the facilities for its new owners.
GHA's Wider Action team funded the purchase of tables and chairs, a projector, a screen, a lap top and computer, fire extinguishers, new flooring and kitchen equipment to ensure the building would be used by a variety of local groups.
The recently refurbished premises will be of benefit to a wide cross section of the community including the Public Community Council, Tenants and Residents Association clubs, the Local Pensioners Club and for Estate Action Residents and Community Council meetings.
Kirsty Fotheringham, Community Housing Manager of New Gorbals LHO said: "We are delighted to have played our part in relocating this much needed community facility and would like to thank Stirlingfauld Rooms for all their hard work in making this happen. We are keen to work in partnership with Stirlingfauld Rooms to expand the venue's use to benefit all local groups."
