A new £130,000 multi-purpose games court in Sandyhills has been completed.
The brand new sports facility next to the Sandyhills multi-storey flats, Balbeggie Street will provide a safe and secure environment for local young people to participate in various sporting activities including basketball, football, tennis and volleyball.
The court has been installed thanks to a joint partnership between GHA and Glasgow City Council's Land & Environmental Services which was set up to improve and regenerate neighbourhoods, focusing on giving children and young people safe areas to play or meet up.
Since April 2005, the programme has installed or comprehensively refurbished 25 play areas and/or games courts across the city. Each area is designed with the needs of the community in mind and local people have had a chance to determine the location and design of their facility through consultation with their Local Housing Organisation (LHO).
Robert Addison, Community Housing Manager of Tenant Controlled Housing LHO, said: "We are delighted with the new multi-purpose games court and I know many of the local children can't wait for the official opening. This facility will be a very popular attraction for all of those who use it."
GHA's Head of Regeneration, David Fletcher, said: "The multi-purpose games court at Sandyhills will provide older children with the opportunity to play in a safe and secure environment. It also shows GHA's clear commitment to supporting sport and increased physical activity across the city."
