Councillors stepped out yesterday to re-affirm Fife Council's commitment to Scotland's Climate Change Declaration and to emphasise the role that reducing the council's carbon footprint will play.
The Council Leader and Chief Executive signed the declaration in the presence of members of Fife's Carbon Emissions Reduction Board.
Leader of the Administration, Councillor Peter Grant said: "This is an important step forward for Fife Council and highlights our commitment to becoming a leading green council. Reducing carbon emissions is one element of our plan to achieve this vision and it's something that members across the political spectrum agree on."
Stuart Nichol, Executive Director of Environment and Development added: "The Council has undertaken many initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and now we're taking up the challenge to reduce our baseline carbon emissions by 80%. To achieve this we will need to involve every aspect of the council and put it at the heart of all our activities.
"We will be concentrating on reducing our energy use, the amount of miles we travel, the waste we produce, and being careful about what we buy to reduce its impact on the environment. Everyone must play their part, from simple things like planning journeys better, to working with partners to install wind and solar energy power generators in schools for example."
