yemouth has officially opened its purpose-built pump track, creating a new community asset for the town and the wider Berwickshire area.
Situated on the former playing field immediately to the west of Eyemouth Primary School, the venue includes a 145-metre asphalt pump track, a 45-metre dedicated jump line and a striking two-metre-high banked timber wall ride constructed above the berm. The wall ride is understood to be the first of its kind in the UK.
Designed for riders of all ages and abilities, the facility is suitable for bikes, scooters and skateboards. The scheme has been shaped by local residents over more than 11 years, following an early call for a dedicated wheeled sports site. Initial discussions explored a skateboard park, but children and young people ultimately opted for a pump track, ensuring the design reflects their interests.
The official opening brought together local children, young people, families, community representatives and partner organisations. Activities ranged from riding and scooting sessions to coaching, demonstrations, competitions and refreshments, providing a lively start to the summer break for pupils.
Councillor John Greenwell, Executive Member for Roads and Public Space, said: "The new pump track is a fantastic addition to Eyemouth’s public spaces and will support more children, young people and families to be active outdoors. It is a great example of partners working with the community to deliver a facility that local people have asked for and can take pride in."
