BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will undertake essential overnight resurfacing on the A9 at Dunrobin Castle from Sunday 2 August 2026.
The £520,000 scheme will renew 1.3 kilometres of carriageway and is scheduled across 15 night-time closures between 19:00 and 06:00, with all works expected to finish by 06:00 on Friday 21 August, weather permitting.
To protect both roadworkers and motorists, the A9 will be closed each night during working hours, with timed access amnesties at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 2am and 4am when queuing vehicles will be safely escorted through the site. The road will be open outside these hours to minimise disruption, and access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.
Euan Burnett, BEAR Scotland's North West Planned Maintenance Manager, said: "This resurfacing project on the A9 will address existing defects and significantly improve the road surface for all road users.
"The overnight closures are essential to ensure the safety of both our workforce and road users due to the narrow width of the carriageway at this location. We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption by carrying out the works overnight and providing regular amnesty periods to allow traffic to pass safely through the site.
"Our teams will do everything possible to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience while these improvements are carried out. We encourage anyone travelling through the area to plan ahead and check the Traffic Scotland website before setting out."
