Cairn Housing Association has joined forces with High Life Highland’s Archive Service to safeguard a substantial collection of historic housing records and drawings linked to communities across the Scottish Highlands.
The archive features original plans and documents charting the development of neighbourhoods and estates including Hilton, Kinmylies, Pennyland and Mount Pleasant. Many items originate from properties transferred from the former Scottish Special Housing Association.
Under a guardianship agreement, the collection — which also includes historic microfiche — will be cared for by the High Life Highland Archive Centre, ensuring the material is preserved and made accessible for future generations.
Audrey Simpson, Chief Executive of Cairn Housing Association, said: "These records tell an important story about the development of communities across The Highlands and the role affordable housing has played in shaping people’s lives over many decades.”
"We are delighted to work with the Highland Archive Centre to ensure these historic documents are preserved, protected and made available for future generations to learn from and appreciate.
"By safeguarding these materials, we are helping to preserve an important part of local history and the legacy of social housing in The Highlands."
