A major £1 million investment in Dunfermline’s road network is scheduled to commence this summer, focusing on improvements between Carnegie Drive and Crossford. The comprehensive programme includes road resurfacing, street lighting upgrades, drainage enhancements, pedestrian safety improvements, and structural repairs to Glen Bridge.
Works are set to begin on Saturday 4 July and are scheduled to last for 9 weeks, subject to weather conditions. As this route serves as a primary artery for Dunfermline and west Fife, road users are advised to anticipate delays. The project has been deliberately scheduled for the summer months to mitigate potential disruption.
Traffic management measures will be implemented throughout the duration of the works, including a combination of road and lane closures, manually controlled traffic signals, and temporary lights. Residents in the area between the traffic lights and Berrylaw Place are requested to utilise the Pittencrieff Park car park for the duration of the project.
Key Project Components:
• A994 (Dunfermline to Crossford): Resurfacing between Berrylaw Road and the William Street junction, alongside drainage improvements and footway patching.
• William Street / Pittencrieff Street: Upgrading of existing traffic signals to new Puffin pedestrian crossings, layout adjustments, and pavement resurfacing.
• A907 (Glen Bridge / Carnegie Drive / Pittencrieff Street): Carriageway resurfacing between the William Street junction and Carnegie Drive / Chapel Street. Glen Bridge will undergo significant structural repairs, including deck surveys, concrete repairs, and the replacement of expansion joints and waterproofing membranes.
• Chalmers Street (South): Resurfacing from the Glen Bridge junction to the Bridge Street / Bruce Street junction.
Traffic and Travel Impacts:
• Working Hours: While most work will take place between 9pm and 6am, specific sections including the A907 will see road and lane closures in operation 24 hours a day, with work hours from 7am to 7pm.
• Diversions: Eastbound traffic on the A907 will be diverted via Coal Road and William Street / Baldridgeburn, with signal timings adjusted to assist with traffic flow. Full road closures are planned for Sundays on sections of the A907.
• Bus Services: Express buses will divert via the A907. Service and shuttle buses will continue to operate in Cairneyhill and Crossford, with connections available at Dunfermline Bus Station.
