Bellshill and Mossend YMCA has been awarded over £300,000 to transform its energy performance and strengthen its position as a vital community space. The £301,504 investment, provided by the Transmission Net Zero Fund, is being used to implement a series of practical building improvements designed to enhance comfort and affordability for its users.
The funding has facilitated a comprehensive package of upgrades, including the installation of air source heat pumps, new LED lighting, and triple-glazed windows. These measures are intended to reduce the building's carbon footprint while lowering the ongoing costs associated with running essential services.
Located in North Lanarkshire, the YMCA serves as a central hub for children, young people, and families. Its daily operations include critical support services such as a community food bank, which delivers essential aid to those in need. Sustainability is a core component of the organisation's long-term strategy, which includes commitments to green energy, recycling, and the development of eco-friendly infrastructure.
Graham Campbell, Director at SP Energy Networks, commented: "When a community space is relied on every week, improving how the building performs matters. The Transmission Net Zero Fund supports organisations to cut carbon, boost energy efficiency and bring down the cost of running the services people depend on."
He further noted the impact on the local area: "Bellshill and Mossend YMCA is a place people in North Lanarkshire rely on. By investing in sustainable upgrades, we're helping create a building that's warmer, more resilient, and better prepared for the future while continuing to serve local needs today."
