The JR Group recently hosted 30 Primary 3 pupils from Kingsland Primary School at its Caledonian Court development in Peebles, providing a practical look at the world of construction.
The visit was organised as part of the school's ongoing project on the building industry. During the event, the site manager delivered an educational talk detailing the lifecycle of a housing development, from initial groundworks to the completion of new homes. A key focus of the presentation was the critical importance of site safety and the potential hazards of active construction environments.
To bring their classroom studies to life, the children observed live site operations, including a demonstration of a forklift truck.
In addition to the educational tour, The JR Group donated various materials to support the school's own project, including timber, topsoil, spades, hard hats, and high-visibility vests. To mark the upcoming holiday, each pupil was also presented with a goodie bag containing Easter treats.
Gayle O'Hear, Construction Administration Manager of The JR Group, commented: "We are proud to support the communities in which we work, and initiatives like this are a great way to engage with young people and inspire future generations. It's important for us to give back locally, not only through building quality homes but by creating meaningful opportunities for learning and development.
"We hope the pupils enjoyed their visit and gained valuable insight into the construction industry and the importance of safety on site."
Nicki Istephan, Depute Head Teacher at Kingsland Primary, added: "Many thanks to The JR Group for a great visit, the children and staff loved it. Please pass on our thanks to everyone involved, they were great with the children, and the team have been very kind with all the donations, which we greatly appreciate."
The initiative forms part of the developer's wider commitment to community engagement and fostering early interest in construction careers.
