East Renfrewshire Council has unveiled a coordinated regeneration plan for the Craigheads residential estate in Barrhead.
The initiative aims to tackle long-standing environmental, social, and wellbeing challenges through a combination of physical property upgrades, service redesign, and community-led projects.
Craigheads, which comprises a mix of social housing, private rented tenancies, and owner-occupied homes, is a key focus for the Council's "A Place to Grow" vision. This strategic framework sets the development direction for the region through to 2040.
Initial works are scheduled to commence this April. The first phase of the project will include targeted repairs, improved signage, and the securing of communal doors. Additionally, the Council will carry out one-off close cleans and various environmental improvements across the estate.
Residents of Craigheads will receive written details regarding the project, and the Council is actively seeking input from the local community. Those wishing to contribute ideas or get involved in the regeneration process are encouraged to contact the local authority via email at [email protected].
Council Leader Owen O'Donnell said: "This investment marks a significant step in improving the quality of life for residents in Craigheads. By combining important property upgrades with wider environmental and community initiatives, we're taking a coordinated, place‑based approach that addresses longstanding challenges and supports a healthier, more vibrant neighbourhood where everyone can flourish."
Housing Convener Danny Devlin said: "We're committed to working closely with residents and local partners to shape the future of Craigheads together, ensuring our communities can thrive. Their insight and experience are vital to ensuring these improvements deliver real, lasting benefits for residents, and we're encouraging everyone to get involved as this work progresses."
