The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) has announced the 14 projects shortlisted for the 2026 RIAS Awards. The selection highlights a diverse range of architecture, varying significantly in scale, purpose, and geographical location.
Among the contenders is the St Andrews Drive Phases 2 and 3 development in South Glasgow. Designed by JM Architects and constructed by CCG (Scotland) for Southside Housing Association, the £23m project reached completion in 2023. The 120-home scheme replaced a former six-storey concrete block with a landscape-led masterplan consisting of three- and four-storey buildings. The development provides a variety of housing, including one- to three-bedroom apartments and larger three- and four-bedroom main-door maisonettes, available for both mid-market and social rent.
The judging panel is set to visit a wide array of public and private sector projects as part of the final evaluation process. The shortlist features a museum, a library, and a healthcare facility, alongside several notable conservation projects.
Skilled building restoration is a recurring theme this year, with judges scheduled to view the revitalisation of a 15th-century tower house and doocot, an outdoor swimming pool, and a National Trust for Scotland property located in the Hebrides. These projects demonstrate how historic structures can be granted a new lease of life through expert architectural intervention.
