McTaggart Construction is celebrating a major milestone in 2026 as the company marks its 80th anniversary. To commemorate eight decades of service to the Scottish construction industry, the firm has announced a significant £80,000 donation to be shared among three prominent charities.
Founded in Dalry, Ayrshire, in 1946 by brothers George and Willis McTaggart, the family-owned business has evolved from its humble beginnings into one of Scotland's leading providers of social and affordable housing. While the firm has a diverse portfolio spanning healthcare, education, and retail, its modern mission is centred on delivering high-quality homes in partnership with local authorities and housing associations.
To reflect its long-standing commitment to the communities it helps build, McTaggart is donating £1,000 for every year it has been in business. The funds will be distributed throughout 2026 to Crossbasket House, The Beatson Cancer Charity, and Simon Community Scotland.
Rosslyn Anderson, Director and granddaughter of the co-founder, commented: "Reaching our 80th year in business is a remarkable achievement and a moment of great pride for everyone connected with the company. Founded in 1946 by my grandfather and his brother, the business was later carried forward by my father, who helped to shape its values and direction. Today, we continue this journey, building on a legacy of success, integrity, and commitment that has guided us for eight decades and will carry us well into the future."
Supporting Vital Scottish Services The three chosen charities represent sectors closely aligned with the company's values of security, health, and community support:
• Crossbasket House: An independent charity providing free, "home away from home" accommodation for families with children undergoing treatment at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.
• The Beatson Cancer Charity: An organisation dedicated to supporting people and families affected by cancer through funding for research, innovation, and enhanced patient care at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre.
• Simon Community Scotland: A frontline charity working to prevent and end homelessness across Scotland by providing emergency accommodation and advocacy for vulnerable individuals.
Managing Director Janice Russell added: "Our primary focus today is social and affordable housing, and we're privileged to deliver homes that provide security, opportunity, and hope to communities across Scotland. As we celebrate this milestone, we wanted to support organisations that share this mission – giving people a safe place during their most difficult times, supporting families when they need it most, and creating brighter futures."
The £80,000 pledge is the first of several initiatives planned by McTaggart Construction to celebrate its 80-year heritage throughout 2026.
