Aberdeenshire Council has confirmed that a pre-determination hearing will take place next month regarding the onshore transmission infrastructure for the Buchan Offshore Wind project.
The planning application, registered under reference APP/2025/1617, outlines the necessary works to connect the offshore wind farm to the national grid. The proposed development includes a landfall point at Rattray Bay, a cable route corridor, and the construction of a new substation and control building, eventually linking to the existing Peterhead Substation.
The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, 11 February at 6pm. It will be held at Buchan House, St Peter Street, Peterhead, and will also be accessible virtually via Microsoft Teams. While the public is welcome to observe the proceedings in person or via a live stream, seating at the venue is limited.
This hearing forms a formal part of the planning process, designed to allow the applicant, consultees, and those who have submitted valid representations to present their views directly to councillors. It is important to note that this is not a public consultation event; only those who have already made formal representations and notified the Planning Service by the required deadline will be permitted to speak.
No final decision on the application will be made during the session. However, the proceedings will be minuted, and all points raised will be submitted to the Buchan area committee for consideration. Following this, a report incorporating local views will be presented to the Infrastructure Services Committee for a final determination.
Further details on the application can be accessed via the Aberdeenshire Council planning portal.
