Three pupils from St Patrick's Primary School in central Glasgow—Alia Akhtar, Eason Wei, and Katie Kelekhsashvili—were the winners of GRAHAM's Christmas poster drawing competition and were invited to help switch on the festive lights at the Central Quay construction site.
Over 60 students from the local primary school took part in the competition, submitting posters themed around construction at Christmastime. Judges praised the creativity and imagination displayed by the pupils.
The three winners, aged between eight and nine, joined GRAHAM representatives and their parents at the site on 26 November 2025 for the special switch-on event.
GRAHAM is the main contractor for Unite Students' £124.5 million (one hundred and twenty-four point five million pounds) Central Quay development. Construction is well underway on the 934-bed student accommodation project, which is scheduled to open for the 2027/28 academic year.
Mary Moore, head teacher at St Patrick's Primary School, said the children were "incredibly excited" to participate, adding: "Being able to switch on the Christmas lights that they will see each day leading up to Christmas is a truly memorable experience for them."
Suzanne Stevenson, social impact manager at GRAHAM Building North, noted that engaging with local schools strengthens the company's connection with the community, helps to inspire the next generation, and delivers a lasting positive impact by celebrating local creativity.
