A new ten-year Regeneration Plan for the future of Coatbridge has been prepared and endorsed by the council, following extensive consultation with local residents, community groups, and businesses.
The plan is supported by an initial four-year Investment Plan and was produced by the Coatbridge Neighbourhood Board.
The comprehensive plan has now been submitted to the UK Government for approval.
If approved, the town stands to receive a total of £19.5 million in UK Government funding over the next decade. The first stage of investment, covering the four years starting from April 2026, totals £6,658,000 (£5,306,000 capital and £1,352,000 revenue).
The overall vision is for Coatbridge to become a more vibrant place by 2036, with its existing strengths enhanced and stronger social cohesion, where both people and local businesses can thrive.
The plan outlines three key priorities identified during the community consultation:
1. More opportunities for young people: Focusing on improving health, wellbeing, skills development, and life chances.
2. Invest in what we have: Providing improved opportunities to address health inequalities and access local culture and sport offerings.
3. A safe and friendly town centre: Aiming to create a vibrant hub for civic, community, and social life, where people can access key services and businesses can thrive.
Gavin Whitefield, Chair of the Coatbridge Neighbourhood Board, called the plan's development a "significant achievement," stating it will guide investment over the next four years to deliver improvements for residents and businesses across the town.
