The Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm project is advancing with hook-up and commissioning activities at the new offshore substation platform, located approximately 22 kilometres from the Angus coast.
More than 65 personnel are currently living and working offshore on the Noble Resilient, a self-elevating, jack-up vessel. The vessel, which is 70 metres long with three 145-metre legs, is serving as a walk-to-work accommodation base for the crew and project teams. It has berths for up to 120 people, along with facilities such as a gym, cinema, and restaurants. The vessel will remain on-site until the initial scope of work is completed later in 2025.
Key activities currently underway include:
• Cable pull-in and jointing of the first export cable, which was pulled in from the cable lay vessel CMOS Installer in early October.
• Hook-up and commissioning of the Siemens Energy Offshore Transmission Module (OTM®), which was installed in early August.
The 2,700-tonne OTM® platform, fabricated by Smulders at their Wallsend yard, sits on a 68-metre deep jacket foundation. Once the project is complete, the wind farm's two export cables will connect into the platform.
The multidisciplinary work now being carried out includes cable jointing, electrical, inspection, mechanical, painting, scaffolding, and rope access.
