A public engagement seeking views on the next stage of the proposed Aberdeen Rapid Transit (ART) project has been launched. ART is a new mass rapid transport service designed to provide high quality, fast, frequent, and reliable public transport across two cross-city routes within the Aberdeen City Region.
The engagement is live now and will run until Friday, 7 November 2025.
The Aberdeen City Region Deal is providing funding to develop a Case for Investment for ART, in partnership with Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council, Nestrans, and the North East Bus Alliance.
Two preferred cross-city routes were agreed in June 2024: Portlethen to Craibstone and Westhill to Blackdog.
Key features of the proposed ART include:
• Priority for buses through dedicated lanes and signal priority.
• High-quality stops featuring level boarding, lighting, and CCTV.
• Mobility hubs to provide park and ride opportunities.
• High-capacity, multi-door zero emission vehicles.
Councillor Michael Hutchison, Chair of Nestrans, said the North East deserves a modern public transport network, and ART could be key to making that happen, which "in turn bolsters our Net Zero credentials".
The engagement is being held online and through a series of in-person drop-in events, including:
• Tuesday, 7 October 2025 (11am-3pm): Main Concourse, Foresterhill Health Campus
• Friday, 10 October 2025 (2pm-6pm): Ashdale Hall, Westhill
• Thursday, 23 October 2025 (11am-4pm): Bon Accord Centre
• Friday, 31 October 2025 (2pm-6pm): Jubilee Hall, Portlethen
