Argyll and Bute Council has secured funding from the Scottish Government’s Rural Tourism Infrastructure Fund (RTIF) to support two tourism projects.
The funding, administered by VisitScotland, will go towards improving infrastructure on the Isle of Staffa and at the Skerryvore Lighthouse Shore Station on Tiree.
The Staffa Access Infrastructure project will receive a maximum grant of £900,000 towards a total project cost of £1,471,500. This is the final phase of the Staffa Conservation and Access Project and will replace the existing cliff-side staircase, which is in urgent need of improvement.
On Tiree, the Skerryvore Lighthouse Shore Station project will receive a grant of £219,359 from a total cost of £276,177. This funding will be used to improve the existing trail, address visitor access and parking issues, and allow for all-year-round access to the site for both locals and tourists.
Councillor Math Campbell-Sturgess, the council's Policy Lead for Business Development, stated that the funding will help ease the pressure on tourist areas and allow both visitors and residents to benefit.
