Fleming Timber Structures, a Scottish firm, has been shortlisted in three categories at this year's Structural Timber Awards. The nominations recognise the company's contribution to sustainable design and expert installation across education, healthcare and the wider built environment.
The annual awards celebrate excellence in structural timber construction, with winners to be announced on Wednesday, 1 October in Birmingham.
The nominations are for two key projects and one company-wide award:
Healthcare Project of the Year: Bishopton and Dargavel Health Facility
Fleming Timber Structures is being recognised for its work on the Bishopton and Dargavel Health Facility in partnership with Hub West Scotland and NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. The project, delivered with carbon-conscious construction at its core, uses a timber frame solution with glulam beams to provide a high-performance building with enhanced structural and architectural features.
Education Project of the Year: Maybury Primary School, Edinburgh
The company's work on Maybury Primary School in Edinburgh has been shortlisted for its role in delivering one of the city's Passivhaus-standard schools. Working with Morrison Construction, Fleming designed, manufactured and installed the complex timber solution, which achieved exceptional airtightness, far exceeding the Passivhaus threshold. The school is a key part of the City of Edinburgh Council's 2030 net-zero targets.
Installer of the Year: Fleming Timber Structures
This nomination celebrates the company's consistent delivery of complex timber systems across Scotland's most sustainable public buildings. The nomination highlights Fleming's ability to manufacture and install bespoke systems in-house, offering precision and flexibility essential for low-carbon construction. As Technical Commercial Manager Paula Thompson noted, the company's process allows it to "build virtually anything."
