Plans for the next phase of the Millcroft Road regeneration project are moving ahead, with the council now acquiring flats to prepare the site for demolition.
The goal is to replace the existing 169 flats with 72 new, high-quality council homes.
A compulsory purchase order was confirmed in January, allowing the council to proceed with the site's transformation. The new homes will be built in the Carbrain area, featuring modern standards and enhanced energy efficiency.
Councillor Michael McPake, the Housing Convener, said the council-led project is a vital step to address long-standing issues with the flats, including their deteriorating condition and persistent problems with antisocial behaviour and fly-tipping. He added that the council is committed to supporting residents and owner-occupiers through the process, with some already rehoused in new flats built by the Sanctuary Housing Association.
