Nairnshire Area Committee has approved a total of £100,054 in funding from the Community Regeneration Fund for three projects aimed at improving Nairn's Links, riverside, and public toilets.
Nairn Links Heritage
The Nairn Links Heritage project received £25,054 to upgrade and repair several Victorian installations on the Nairn Links, including a Grade A listed Bandstand, three monuments, and two Victorian shelters. The project will work with the local museum to install QR code signage linking to the museum's website to encourage learning. The restoration work will also provide an opportunity for local community involvement.
Nairn Links Toilets
The Nairn Links Toilets project was awarded £45,000 to produce design options for the redevelopment of the public toilets into a modern, fully accessible facility. A key feature of the designs will be to create an accessibility hub that incorporates a Changing Places toilet and storage for the Nairn Beach Wheelchairs.
Nairn Riverside Development Plan
The Nairn Riverside Development Plan received £30,000 to help create a space that is welcoming and safe for people and good for nature and the environment. The project is based on four main ideas: Nature and Wildlife, Paths and Access, Community and Play, and Heritage and Art. Local people will be involved in shaping the project through meetings, workshops, and by sharing ideas.
Councillor Paul Oldham, Nairnshire Area Vice-Chair, said: "We are delighted to support all three projects which will bring welcome improvements to Nairn Links, riverside and public toilets. Community Regeneration Funding plays a key role in enabling Ward members to support important projects in the heart of our communities and for the benefit of our local people."
