A new collaborative public engagement session is being held to give Shetland residents a clearer picture of the islands' energy future.
The event, which is being coordinated by SSEN Transmission, follows feedback from local communities and stakeholders who requested a more joined-up approach to public consultation on planned energy developments.
The session will take place at Mareel, Lerwick, on Tuesday, 9 September between 3pm and 7pm. It will feature representatives from several companies, including SSEN Transmission, SSEN Distribution, Statkraft, Veri Energy, and Stoura.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear high-level overviews of proposed projects before more detailed public consultations later this year. They can also speak directly with project teams, ask questions, and provide feedback to help shape how the projects are developed.
Alan Kelly, Lead Project Manager at SSEN Transmission, said that the feedback received is crucial in shaping the company's work and that the session is designed to provide the clearer picture the people of Shetland have asked for.
Douglas Irvine, Shetland Islands Council’s Executive Manager for Future Energy, welcomed the collaborative event, stating: "It is far more useful to see the fuller energy development picture being presented in one room so that people can get a better understanding of the interaction between projects and the connecting infrastructure."
The event is free to attend and open to everyone, with no registration required.
