Arc-Tech (Scotland) has welcomed six new apprentices in its 2025 intake, bringing the total number of apprentices employed by the firm to 19. The move reinforces the company's commitment to youth employment and skills development within the Scottish construction industry.
The new apprentices will undertake multi-year learning programmes in heating engineering and electrical trades. The programmes, delivered in partnership with several colleges, will combine classroom-based learning with practical, on-site experience.
Andrew Halliday, Commercial Director of Arc-Tech, said this is the largest intake since before the pandemic, reflecting the company's progress and ambitions as it nears its tenth year in business.
The company is also continuing its trainee programme, with a number of young people working towards their HNC and HND qualifications. This year, the company has retained one graduate, and others are starting new traineeships in September.
Among them are aspiring Quantity Surveyors Eva Gallacher (19) and Mia Gallacher (17), who were inspired to join the industry after attending a 'Girls in Construction' event.
Eva, from Carnwath, completed work experience with Arc-Tech before beginning her traineeship. She has worked on high-profile projects, including the Western Villages residential development in Edinburgh, which features one of the UK's most advanced zero-emissions district heating systems and over 2,800 solar panels.
Mia, from Wishaw, also attended a 'Women in Construction' event and completed work experience before starting her traineeship at South Lanarkshire College.
She encourages other young women to explore careers in the industry: "Don't be put off by the idea that it's a male-dominated industry. Your perspective matters, and the more opportunities you take on, the more you'll learn and grow."
