Work is now underway on a £23.7 million development in Shawhead, Coatbridge, that will deliver 100 new council homes.
A sod-cutting ceremony was held at Dunottar Avenue, marking the start of building work on the site of former low-rise flats.
The development, being delivered by CCG (Scotland), comprises 76 houses and cottage flats and 24 flats. A mix of two, three, and four-bedroom homes are included, with 11 of the homes designated for wheelchair users. The homes and cottage flats will be serviced by air source heat pump heating technology, while the blocks of flats will use exhaust air technology. The project is part of North Lanarkshire Council's ambitious new supply programme to deliver 6,000 new homes by 2035.
Housing Convener, Councillor Michael McPake, said that the new homes will replace low-rise flats with "modern, energy efficient homes." He added: "We're creating job opportunities, boosting the local economy and delivering a range of community benefits."
David Wylie, Managing Director of CCG (Scotland), commented that the company is set to deliver 230 affordable homes across two developments in Coatbridge by mid-2027. He added that the social, economic, and environmental impact of the development "will be felt across the community for many years to come."
The project is supported by grant funding of £11.6 million from the Scottish Government. All new homes will comply with the highest energy efficiency standards and are designed to be adaptable to suit tenants' needs over the years.
