The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has announced the elite line-up of finalists for SkillBuild 2025, bringing the nation's most promising construction trainees and apprentices one step closer to being crowned the best in their trade. Recognised as the largest and longest-running industry skills competition in the UK, SkillBuild serves as a prestigious platform for emerging talent.
This year saw over 1,000 students fiercely compete across 10 distinct construction trade categories during 16 regional qualifiers. From this extensive pool, the eight highest scorers in each category have now earned their place at the SkillBuild 2025 National Final. This ultimate showdown will take place at Arena MK, Milton Keynes, on 19–20 November, culminating in the crowning of 10 overall winners. The three-day final demands intense concentration, with competitors constructing a complex project within an 18-hour timeframe, meticulously judged on technical ability, time management, problem-solving, performance under pressure, and adherence to health and safety standards.
SkillBuild's role in identifying and nurturing talent has never been more crucial. CITB's annual industry forecast highlights a significant demand for an additional 47,860 workers per year from 2025 to 2029. In this context, the competition remains an invaluable platform for spotlighting the rewarding career opportunities available within the construction sector.
Richard Bullock, Head of Careers Products at CITB, extended his congratulations to all finalists, affirming the magnitude of their achievement. "In a time when construction skills are in high demand, it is more important than ever to spotlight the next generation of construction talent," he remarked. "SkillBuild continues to further this mission and is proud to demonstrate the value that a trainee or apprentice provides to their team. The quality of participants never ceases to amaze me – I'm excited to see this year's National Final and wish all the competitors the best of luck!"
Echoing this sentiment, Josh Thompson, a Painting and Decorating Judge and former SkillBuild contestant, shared his enthusiasm: "It's so encouraging to see the enthusiasm from trainees and apprentices across the industry coming from all corners of the country. Good luck to everyone participating in the Final later this year!"
