Clark Contracts has been appointed by Fife Council to construct a new council housing development on Lochgelly Road in Lumphinnans.
The project, comprising 97 new homes, is expected to commence works in July 2025 with an anticipated completion in summer 2027.
The development will provide a diverse mix of housing, including 72 homes for general need, 19 for specific needs, and six homes designed for wheelchair accessibility, alongside associated infrastructure. This project is one of three across Fife that will be restarted this year following the previous contractor entering administration.
Councillor Judy Hamilton, Fife Council's spokesperson for housing, expressed her satisfaction with the progress: "I'm pleased that these contracts have been awarded and that work can restart at Lumphinnans, Dunfermline and Lochore. Providing more council houses in Fife is a key priority for the council so this progress is very welcome news."
Councillor Hamilton highlighted the energy efficiency and diverse nature of the new homes. "The new council houses will be highly energy efficient, meeting our design and sustainability standards making them very cost effective to run. The diverse housing mix will meet the needs of local people by providing amenity bungalows and 4-in-a-block flats; properties designed for wheelchairs and two, three and four-bedroomed houses."
She added: "Our tenants often experience huge improvements in their quality of life when they are able to live in a home that meets their individual needs. I am absolutely committed to providing homes that are safe, warm and secure."
Michael Scanlan, Director at Clark Contracts, commented on the appointment: "We are delighted to have been awarded this project at Lochgelly Road, Lumphinnans. This development will be the sixth project completed by our dedicated housing division since its formation in 2023. We look forward to working with Fife Council and the wider design team to deliver this much needed housing for the local community."
The appointment of Clark Contracts marks a significant step forward for the Lumphinnans development, bringing much-needed affordable and accessible housing to the area.
