Network Rail Launches Recruitment Drive For Maintenance Roles

Network Rail has initiated a new national recruitment drive specifically targeting maintenance roles across its operations.

The campaign is open to entry-level candidates, with positions available from Operative and Technician through to Team Leader.

Maintenance specialists play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and reliability of Britain's railway network, which spans over 20,000 miles of track, alongside thousands of signals, level crossings, and bridges. Their work encompasses keeping tracks and wider rail infrastructure in good, safe working condition and conducting complex diagnostics to monitor system performance.

Darren Roberts, a team leader on the Western route, highlighted the dynamic nature of the work: "Growing up I was active all the time and that passion was the driving force that put me where I am today. The type of work we do is very hands on and dynamic and can include anything from vegetation management to level crossing maintenance. No two days are the same and with the right attitude you can really grow with the job."

This recruitment drive forms part of broader industry celebrations for Railway 200, a year-long nationwide campaign commemorating 200 years of the modern railway. The initiative aims to inspire individuals to consider a career in rail and become future pioneers of the industry.

Martin Thyne, HR Director at Network Rail, commented: "In this important bicentenary year, marking the birth of the modern railway, we are delighted to launch a new recruitment drive for maintenance roles. Rail maintenance offers a variety of career pathways. We believe in the power of potential and through these entry level opportunities you can develop and take your career to the next level."
