Partick Housing Association Marks 50th Anniversary

Construction News Image
Partick Housing Association (PHA) is proudly celebrating its 50th year in social housing, having been formally registered in October 1975.

Throughout 2025, PHA will engage with tenants, local partners, and the wider community to reflect on its past achievements and look forward to the future, with activities also connecting to Glasgow's 850th anniversary and other housing associations celebrating similar milestones.

The anniversary calendar commenced in March and April with a series of free, externally funded workshops and taster sessions, including line dancing, a woodwork workshop, and an art class. These initial events aimed to combat social isolation and encourage community members to try something new.

PHA's celebratory plans for the remainder of the year are extensive and include:

• The launch of a new 50th Anniversary logo, to be used throughout 2025.

• Sponsorship of the Active Schools (AS) programme, providing activities and sports equipment for local pupils.

• A Community Artwork Competition in local schools, inviting young people to envision "Partick of the future".

• A 10-week Community Development Course, funded by PHA and delivered by the University of Glasgow, open to tenants and other active community members.

• Collaborative Creative Workshops in partnership with SWG3, Elderpark HA, and Linthouse HA as part of Glasgow's 850 Clyde Chorus event.

• "The BIGGER Partick Picnic," scheduled for Saturday, 28 June, from 12 pm to 5 pm. This family fun day, in partnership with The Annexe and Partick Community Council, will feature live entertainment, pop-up workshops, a free community picnic, photo exhibitions, and the Annexe’s infamous Partick skipping challenge.

• Walking tours for new tenants, offering insights into Partick's rich history and highlighting important local amenities and services.

Mark O'Mara, Active Schools Coordinator, commented on the long-standing collaboration: "Active Schools have had a very successful partnership with Partick Housing Association for more than 10 years and through lots of projects this has had a really positive impact in providing physical activity opportunities and sports equipment for local School pupils. In our 20th year we're delighted to continue this partnership in Partick Housing Association's 50th!"

Jane Cowie, Project Coordinator at Annexe Communities, added: "We are delighted to join forces for a Bigger Partick Picnic this year in celebration of PHA's 50 and Glasgow's 850 years. The event is free for all the family, everyone welcome, come along and join in the fun and get practicing for the Great Partick Skipping Challenge!"

The year-long celebrations will culminate in a special event and community marketplace in October, where PHA aims to showcase its staff and community, celebrate its legacy, and look towards a bright future in Partick.

Jacqueline McCutcheon, Corporate Services Director, reflected on the significance of the anniversary: "Everyone at PHA and throughout the social housing sector recognises that we continue to face very challenging times. However, we also want to acknowledge the incredibly good work we do, providing homes and delivering services within our communities. We aim to use our 50th Anniversary as a chance to celebrate the positives. We want to create more opportunities for tenants, support our partners, and showcase the outstanding work that PHA and other social landlords do in their communities every day."

Further details on all 50th Anniversary plans will be featured in a special edition supplement included with PHA's summer newsletter, The Partick Times, due out mid-June 2025.
