Clark Contracts' Housing division has commenced work on the conversion of the former Motherwell Town Hall into 20 modern, affordable flats.
The refurbishment project, located in the heart of Motherwell, will involve the partial demolition of the former Zone building while retaining the Grade C listed front façade. This approach aims to blend the building's preserved architectural features with energy-efficient, modern housing.
The new flats are part of North Lanarkshire Council’s new supply programme, which aims to deliver 6,000 homes by 2035. The development will comprise 10 one-bedroom amenity flats, three one-bedroom flats, and seven two-bedroom mainstream flats. All the new homes will include features designed to meet the current and future needs of tenants, achieve Secure by Design standards for improved safety and security, and incorporate energy efficiency measures for increased sustainability.
The project will also deliver landscaped communal gardens to promote biodiversity and enhanced outdoor amenity space, including external drying areas, and secure bin and cycle storage.
Danny McKibbens, Operations Director at Clark Contracts, said: "We are pleased to be working in partnership with North Lanarkhire Council on this important development, which will provide much-needed housing for the Motherwell area. This project exemplifies how historic buildings can be thoughtfully repurposed to meet modern needs, while preserving their architectural significance. We look forward to delivering this project and making a positive and lasting contribution to the local community."
