Fife Council is pushing forward with its affordable housing ambitions, with new council house developments progressing in Dunfermline, Lochgelly, and Cowdenbeath.
In Dunfermline, the council is finalising an agreement with Campion Homes to deliver 41 new council houses on the site of the former council depot on Elgin Street. Work is scheduled to commence on site this month (May 2025), with an expected completion date of May 2027. The development will feature a mix of detached and semi-detached homes of various sizes, including seven specific needs homes and four wheelchair-accessible bungalows.
Councillor Judy Hamilton, Fife Council's housing spokesperson, welcomed the development: "I am delighted that in the face of a housing emergency, we are continuing to deliver our ambitious Affordable Housing Programme, one of the country's largest council house-building programmes, while the pressure on housing services continues to be relentlessly high. Each new council house will deliver a warmer, healthier home that helps to improve the wellbeing of our tenants.”
Meanwhile, construction is ongoing for 44 new council houses in Lochgelly, in partnership with Robertson Partnership Homes. This development, located at the site of the former Jenny Grey House on Melville Street, will provide a mix of bungalows, two-storey family homes, and 24 extra care flats. Work on this site began in November 2024 and is anticipated to be completed in Autumn 2026.
In Cowdenbeath, work is also progressing well on 19 new council houses at the former Valley House home site on Hill Street. This project, also in partnership with Robertson Partnership Homes, will offer a mix of bungalows, flats, two-storey houses, and three-storey townhouses. Construction started in February 2024, and the new homes are expected to be ready by late summer 2025.
Councillor Hamilton added: "I've visited these sites recently and I'm delighted that work is progressing well. It's important to note that as well as providing more housing, the Affordable Housing Programme creates jobs and apprenticeships, supporting the construction industry and the Fife economy."
These projects underscore Fife Council's continued commitment to increasing the availability of affordable, high-quality housing across the region.
