Residents of Greenhill Court in Rutherglen are benefiting from enhanced fire safety following the supply and installation of new, engineered timber fire doors by the CCG Group. The £670,000 contract, undertaken on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council, forms part of a wider planned maintenance programme valued at up to £10 million that has been ongoing across the local authority since 2022.
The new fire door sets, which include the door leaf and surrounding frame for all flat entrances, common passageways, and stores, were manufactured by CCG's in-house ‘Manufacturing' division. This division is located just over two miles from Greenhill Court at the company's headquarters in Cambuslang, ensuring local production and supply.
Each door has been manufactured to precise specifications using semi-automated production processes, including robotically applied paint. This results in a fully fire-rated product certified with the BM Trada Q Mark, demonstrating its ability to withstand fire for up to 60 minutes and effectively prevent the passage of smoke during an emergency.
The installation of the new fire doors was carried out by CCG's dedicated in-house planned maintenance division, ‘Asset Management', providing South Lanarkshire Council with a comprehensive supply and fit service.
Jim Cunningham, CCG Asset Management Manager, commented on the successful handover of the project: "I am delighted that we have handed over Greenhill Court to South Lanarkshire Council. The completion of this contract takes the number of doors installed over the duration of this multi-phase programme to 2500 units, encompassing over 1300 residences, which is a remarkable achievement."
He also highlighted the significance of the programme for tenant safety: "The programme is not just a testament to our own capabilities, but also highlights the Council's commitment to prioritise the safety and security of tenants living in multi-storey accommodation across the region."
Looking ahead, Cunningham added: "Over the coming weeks, we will transition to a further residence in Hamilton before returning to Cambuslang for the final contract of the programme. We thank the Council and their tenants for their ongoing support, and look forward to progressing works over the weeks and months ahead."
The South Lanarkshire Council fire door replacement programme was procured through the Scottish Procurement Alliance.
