ScottishPower Renewables has awarded a significant EPCIC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Commissioning) contract to HSM Offshore Energy for the offshore substation and its jacket foundation for the East Anglia TWO offshore windfarm.
Under the terms of the contract, HSM Offshore Energy will be responsible for the delivery of the 5,100-tonne offshore high-voltage substation and its 3,700-tonne jacket foundation. These critical components will serve the 960MW windfarm located off the coast of Suffolk, which is projected to generate enough clean, green electricity to power the equivalent of approximately one million homes.
Initial engineering works for the major green energy project commenced in the summer of 2024 under an early work agreement, demonstrating a proactive approach from ScottishPower Renewables. Construction is slated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025, with the jacket foundation expected to be ready for installation in the third quarter of 2027, followed by the topside in late 2027.
Hans Leerdam, CCO at HSM Offshore Energy, commented: "This contract represents a significant milestone for HSM Offshore Energy and underscores our position as a trusted partner in the offshore wind industry. The proactive approach taken by ScottishPower Renewables to reserve yard capacity early demonstrates the value of collaboration and forward-thinking in driving the energy transition. We are proud to contribute to the East Anglia TWO project and to play a role in supporting the UK's ambitious renewable energy targets."
Ross Ovens, ScottishPower Renewables' Managing Director for Offshore, said: "It's fantastic to be working with HSM Offshore Energy to bring our £4 billion East Anglia TWO windfarm to life and produce more homegrown green generation for the UK. This contract is a great example of the innovative and forward-thinking approach we took to securing quality supply chain partners for the project at the earliest opportunity and means we can hit the ground running to begin construction later this year. I can't wait to see the project take shape."
The East Anglia TWO offshore windfarm will be situated in the southern North Sea, approximately 33 kilometres from the Suffolk coast at its closest point near Southwold and 37 kilometres from Lowestoft. The project is anticipated to have an operational capacity of up to 960MW, sufficient to power around 950,000 homes, further bolstering the UK's renewable energy capacity.
