Redevelopment works at the Westhaugh travelling persons' site, near Alva, are set to recommence following the appointment of a new contractor.
Councillors approved a revised budget for the project at a meeting earlier today, paving the way for the works to continue.
The project was halted in February 2024 after the building contractor appointed by Hubco East Central Scotland went into administration. Since then, Hubco East Central Scotland has successfully negotiated and agreed a new fixed price for the completion of the remaining works.
Councillor Jane McTaggart, depute spokesperson for place, welcomed the resumption of the project: "I am delighted this key Council project has a new contractor and an agreed, fixed budget is back in place."
She also highlighted the benefits of the completed development: "When complete the redeveloped site will meet modern, energy efficient standards, as well as the cultural needs of residents. I must thank the Westhaugh community for their patience and resilience during the unfortunate and unavoidable delays to this project. I look forward to completion and to seeing all the families back together again."
It is anticipated that onsite works will begin in May, with residents expected to be able to return to the redeveloped site by April of next year. The completion of the project will provide modern, energy-efficient accommodation that is sensitive to the cultural needs of the travelling community residing there.
