The Corran Ferry Infrastructure Improvement Scheme (CFIIS), funded by the Inverness & Highland City Region Deal, has submitted planning and marine license applications for proposed infrastructure works at Loch Linnhe/Corran Narrows. The project focuses on upgrading shoreside facilities to support a new electric ferry service.
The proposed developments include:
• Construction of a new slipway and overnight berthing pier at Ardgour.
• Construction of a new slipway, breakwater, marshalling area, parking, cycle path, and public facilities north of Corran on the Nether Lochaber side.
These upgrades will require the demolition of the existing pier at Ardgour, land reclamation, dredging, and the establishment of temporary construction compounds. The project involves both marine construction below Mean High Water Springs (MHWS) and construction above Mean Low Water Springs (MLWS).
The Highland Council has submitted the applications to obtain the necessary construction consents for works in Loch Linnhe. Once validated, public notices, supporting documents, and further information will be available on the Council's Corran Ferry Infrastructure Improvement Scheme webpage.
Tenders for the project are programmed to be issued to contractors later this year, with construction scheduled to begin in November 2025, pending successful conclusion of construction consents. Adverts have been placed for interested contractors through Public Contracts Scotland.
