Cameron Clark, a Modern Apprentice in Project Management at Scottish Water, has been awarded the Net Zero Scottish Apprentice of the Year at the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards 2025.
Clark, from Paisley, was recognised for his exceptional dedication to renewable energy projects and carbon reduction, contributing significantly to Scottish Water's goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2040.
Since joining Scottish Water a year ago, Clark has played a pivotal role in major solar PV and hydropower projects, helping to reduce emissions and enhance renewable energy efforts.
"Winning this award is absolutely incredible," said Clark. "I've had the chance to work on projects that genuinely make a difference, and it's been fantastic to see the impact first hand. Being part of Scottish Water's sustainability efforts has been a real privilege, and I'm excited to keep pushing forward."
Clark received his award during Scottish Apprenticeship Week, organised by Skills Development Scotland.
One of Clark's significant achievements was his role in delivering 1,100 solar panels near Falkirk. He managed pre-start meetings, contractors, and ensured smooth project execution, delivering on time, within budget, and to high safety standards. The system now generates 0.64 GWh of clean energy annually, reducing CO₂ emissions by 84 tonnes.
Clark also focuses on sourcing low-carbon materials, enhancing biodiversity at project sites, and minimising waste. At a renewables site in Moffat, his planning minimised environmental impact, and in Irvine, he is working with ecologists on wildlife protection measures.
Ian Piggott, Clark's line manager, praised his dedication and leadership: "He has gone above and beyond in every project he's taken on. He's got a real passion for sustainability, and his leadership skills are already shining through. This award is well deserved, and I can't wait to see what he achieves next."
Clark is now set to lead new solar energy initiatives, expand biodiversity plans, and advance low-carbon heat from wastewater projects.
Applications for our 2025 apprenticeship programmes are open until 6th April, 2025, offering a variety of roles in the water industry. You can find out more at www.scottishwater.co.uk/apprentice.
