Falkirk Council is investing £2 million to enhance public spaces and create new recreational opportunities in Bonnybridge, Slamannan, Dunipace, and Bainsford & Langlees. The projects are being funded through the Regeneration Fund, approved in 2023, which supports infrastructure improvements in town centres and smaller villages.
Initially, £500,000 was allocated to Bonnybridge and £500,000 to Slamannan, with an additional £1 million to be divided equally between Dunipace and Bainsford & Langlees. The projects are based on community consultation to reflect local priorities.
Bonnybridge and Slamannan Enhancements:
In Bonnybridge, improvements include better access and public realm enhancements at Bonnybridge Toll, improved accessibility in Memorial Park with new pathways, seating, landscaping and a dedicated flagpole, a new pump track at Anderson Park, and a new pocket park at the former Royal Hotel site.
Slamannan will see resurfacing, new seating, and improved public realm works at Slamannan Cross, along with restoration of the town clock.
Dunipace and Bainsford & Langlees Priorities:
A 12-week community consultation in Dunipace identified priorities including tackling traffic congestion on Stirling Street and Barnego Road, enhancing public spaces, and improving lighting, walking routes, and play areas.
Residents in Bainsford and Langlees highlighted concerns about safety, cleanliness, and community facilities. Key priorities include improving Coo Park, tackling litter and waste management, and developing a community growing space.
Council officers are reviewing feedback to develop a shortlist of projects for Dunipace and Bainsford & Langlees, with final proposals expected in September 2025.
"Investing in our town centres and smaller settlements is crucial to ensuring all our communities benefit from improved spaces and facilities," said Cllr Paul Garner, Falkirk Council's Deputy Leader and spokesperson for Economic Development. "This funding will help create welcoming, accessible environments that people of all ages can enjoy. By listening to residents and acting on their priorities, we are making meaningful, long-term improvements that will support local businesses and enhance community pride."
