Scottish SMEs have highlighted the opportunities presented by the upcoming Defence Industrial Strategy during a visit by Defence Procurement and Industry Minister Maria Eagle to the Rosyth shipyard.
The Minister visited Babcock's Rosyth site, where the Type 31 frigates are being built, to hear from local businesses about their experiences within the defence sector.
"It was great to visit Rosyth and witness first-hand their world-class shipbuilding programme which will strengthen our national security into the future, whilst boosting jobs and small and medium-sized businesses across Scotland," said Minister Eagle.
The consultation for the new Defence Industrial Strategy is currently underway, with the aim of growing a faster, more integrated, and more resilient supply chain across the UK.
"This Government is working swiftly to develop a new Defence Industrial Strategy, in partnership with industry, innovators and workers, to drive jobs and growth in every nation and region of the UK, supporting our Plan for Change," Minister Eagle added.
The Type 31 frigate programme, which has secured a legacy of shipbuilding activity at Rosyth, serves as an example of how defence investment can support economic growth and create skilled jobs across the UK.
