Ecocem, a leading provider of high-performance, low-carbon cement, has partnered with Peel Ports to optimise its import and distribution network across the UK.
The partnership addresses the challenges faced by Ecocem in efficiently transporting its ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) from production facilities in Dunkirk, France, and Moerdijk, the Netherlands, to key markets across the UK.
Peel Ports has played a crucial role in streamlining Ecocem's supply chain by developing dedicated bulk import terminals at the Port of Sheerness and the Port of Runcorn. These terminals, with storage capacities of 7.5kt and 14kt respectively, provide a central hub for Ecocem's operations, enabling efficient inventory management, customs clearance, and real-time stock visibility.
"In Peel Ports, Ecocem has found a partner that is willing to collaborate and find solutions as our requirements develop and expand," said Sally Anne Sherry, Ecocem Managing Director, UK & Ireland. "Peel provides best-in-class port services, employing high-quality personnel not only to deliver these services, but to support us in achieving our objectives as a business."
Enhancements such as quay-side pipework have improved unloading flexibility and reduced vessel turnaround times, while modifications to road networks within the ports have simplified truck entry and exit, further streamlining operations.
This partnership supports Ecocem's sustainability goals by reducing transport times and emissions, aligning with Peel Ports' commitment to becoming a net-zero port operator by 2040.
With strategically located storage facilities in Sheerness and Runcorn, Ecocem is well-positioned to serve both global and UK markets, providing access to major construction markets in London, the Southeast, and the Northwest.
