The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) has outlined its key priorities for the Scottish Labour Party's upcoming manifesto, calling for increased investment in affordable housing and homelessness services.
"Homes are more than just bricks and mortar," stated the CIH. "Housing and homelessness services provide the foundation for thriving communities, support the economy, and enable individuals to achieve their full potential."
The CIH, which represents around 2,000 housing professionals in Scotland, has identified five key priorities:
• Invest in affordable housing supply: To tackle homelessness and provide a range of housing options to suit different circumstances.
• Invest in homelessness services: To prevent homelessness and ensure rapid and effective responses when it occurs.
• Focus on accessibility: To ensure all homes are accessible and adaptable for people of all ages and abilities.
• Invest in energy efficiency: To support the transition to net zero by improving the energy efficiency of all housing stock.
• Support the housing profession: To ensure that housing professionals have the necessary skills and training to effectively manage homes and support their communities.
The CIH will be working with its Scottish members and key stakeholders to develop its full manifesto in the coming months.
"We will be working with CIH Scotland members and key stakeholders this spring to develop our own manifesto and look forward to sharing the results with Labour MSPs and staff," said the CIH.
This statement highlights the CIH's commitment to advocating for policies that ensure everyone has access to safe, affordable, and sustainable housing.
