Scottish Renewables has been appointed as the Cluster Management Organisation (CMO) to establish a national supply chain cluster for Scotland's burgeoning offshore wind industry.
The appointment follows a competitive tender process conducted by the Scottish Offshore Wind Energy Council (SOWEC). Scottish Renewables was selected by a panel based on the strength of its proposal, with the decision endorsed by members of the SOWEC Supply Chain and Clusters group.
Scottish Renewables will now work closely with the group to develop a comprehensive work programme and officially launch the new cluster in early 2025. This crucial step aims to further strengthen Scotland's position as a global leader in offshore wind energy by fostering a robust and competitive supply chain within the country.
Responding, Claire Mack, Chief Executive of Scottish Renewables, said: "Scottish Renewables is delighted to have been appointed to run a new, single Scottish clean energy cluster which is a key element of creating a fruitful relationship between Scotland's developer community and our existing supply chain. We will be using this opportunity to support and supercharge the growth of Scotland's supplier network.
"From ports and large-scale contractors to the complex ecosystem of SME businesses, there are already many suppliers across the country servicing the renewable energy sector, bringing their world-class expertise to projects not just in Scotland but across the globe. We also have ambitious businesses making the move from other sectors, bringing with them many years of experience and knowledge.
"The single Scottish cluster is about consolidating and streamlining support for all Scottish suppliers. We look forward to working closely with the Scottish Offshore Wind Energy Council and on behalf of the entire renewable energy supply chain to build a sustainable, prosperous and world-class network in Scotland."
